Have you ever watched the evening news and an economic expert comes on giving very reasonable forecasts about the future of the stock market, interest rates or perhaps even the Aussie dollar? The reality is they are wrong as often as they are right.
If ever questioned (which happens rarely) on inaccurate predictions, the reason often trotted out is something akin to “well we didn’t know X would happen in region Y”. Isn’t that the definition of the future? Not knowing what is going to happen.
At Globe, the one thing we are fairly certain of is that no one can tell us what the future holds on a regular (and accurate) basis. We certainly don’t profess to have a crystal ball.
The good news is, you don’t need to know the future to have a successful investment experience. We believe in some robust academic principles in building our portfolios for clients. Simple rules such as:
- Risk and return are related (If it sounds too good to be true…)
- Diversification is imperative (Don’t put all your eggs in one basket)
- Markets are efficient (Trying to outsmart the market doesn’t work)
Globe Financial Planning’s aim is to demystify the confusion perpetuated within the media (and around BBQs) and provide robust, evidence-based investment solutions that meet a client’s personal needs so that clients can focus on the things that they can control and not those they can’t.
